Phil Maffetone - not only a great name but a training guru

24.01.12

At Work, here in Mobbu’s secret seaside bunker, our accountant (super fit, triathlon man) has suggested that we look in to Phil Maffetone’s (http://www.philmaffetone.com/) approach to aerobic fitness training - a seemingly counter intuitive approach but if one of the fittest people I know says it works I am willing to give it a bash.

I know that I only have 6 weeks before the long treck but I am sure that this approach will help in the short term and make me much much fitter in the longer term …

In essence he says *only* train at just below your aerobic threshold for at least six months which means slowing right down … also changing the way you calculate your max aerobic HR, using a heart rate monitor for all training - the goal is to train at the same HR and reduce your lap / km / mile / other distance unit of your choice times …

The article on how to do it is here:  http://content.bandzoogle.com/users/cippianhotmail/files/Want_Speed_Slow_Down_2007.pdf

more fitness articles from him here  http://www.philmaffetone.com/myarticles.cfm

I’ll let you know how I get on.
